Donut Fight
This is my bachelor project, a little animated short I worked on. It was great practice for 3D animation and a fun way to learn some basics for DaVinci Resolve.
Synopsis
Two office workers get into an absurd, increasingly escalating fight over the last donut. They engage in a wordless and exaggerated duel.
Concept
The idea was a to make an animation based on a short, nonverbal, and humorous everyday situation, which would be exaggerated in a fun way.
Environments
The animation is primarly made of two scenes, a breakroom and an office space.
Assets
Since my focus was with the animation, I build these scenes using 3D assets from various recourses. A reduced but functional room design was important to me, so to make sure they fit to the office theme, the short and my idea I adjusted the models accordingly. Adjustments were, for example, editing the mesh itself, removing or adding parts and most importantly changing the colours or even textures to fit within the colour scheme of the setting.
Colour Scheme
The colours for the scene were purposefully set to be very desaturated, grey to cold colour tones. Doing so not only made the world feel more like an almost uncanny cubical office, but it also helped with keeping the focus away from the background. The only things, other than the characters, that stand out from this colour scheme are the cup that's used by a character, the donut box and of course, the donut itself.
Example
A good example of how I adjusted the textures and colours is the vending machine. Here is a before and after:
Final Animation
Conclusion
I started working on the 3D part of this animated short in May 2025 and, due to the deadline, I had to finish it at the beginning of July. Even though it was roughly two months of work, I’m quite happy with the final result. One of the main reasons I decided to create something fun and silly was simply to make people laugh, so whenever my short was shown and the audience laughed, I considered that a success. Working on this project was a refreshing change of pace and a welcome distraction from the less enjoyable things going on at the time.
Thank you for taking your time to look at my work, I hope you enjoyed it and that it made you laugh!
